To prepare the children for the snow class experience, saturday morning sessions were organized: French classes, History of France, pratical information about France. The sessions lasted 3 hours and were mandatory for the children and their teacher.
The Saturday morning sessions also brought the children together, forming a very homogeneous class: they were able to help each other when the going was tough in France: new food, sharing bedrooms, living together with the French children.
In 1978, the first snow class from the South side of Chicago participated. They were mixed with a group from Streamwood, North of the City and the white parents from Streamwood had a hard time accepting their children with black children. However in the chalet, kids were kids and the Americans children got together to face the French children. See book" The French-American snow class"
